    Neck & back pain

Thanks to a growing number of high quality studies, there is now a wide body of evidence to support the effectiveness of Chiropractic care on the treatment and management of both acute and chronic back conditions.

Neck and Back pain can arise from mechanical problems in the spine, from slips or falls, whiplash injury, arthritis, postural issues or of unknown origin.

Pain in the neck or back can be caused inflammation of the joints, muscle spasms and from ‘slipped’ or herniated discs. Problems in the low back and neck can also give rise to pain radiating into the legs or arms respectively. The chiropractor will not only look at your symptoms but determine the underlying cause.

Chiropractors are trained to take and interpret x-rays which may be required but if you have already had these done (or an MRI) please bring them to your initial appointment where possible.

    Headaches and Migraine prevention

Headaches are a symptom with an underlying cause. It is the chiropractors job to determine the cause of the headache via a thorough physical and neurological examination. Once this is done then an effective treatment can be determined.

There can be many different causes of a headache and some can arise from inflammation of the joints and muscles of the neck , these are termed cervicogenic headaches.

Chiropractic treatment has been shown to help cervicogenic headaches and prevent migraines.

Postural and work place advice is also given in order to help eliminate the cause of musculoskeletal problems.

    Extremity Joints

A wide variety of problems related to any joint of the body can often be relieved by chiropractic treatment, such as:

        Frozen shoulder

        Tennis/golfers elbow

        Ligament injuries

        Patellofemoral pain syndrome

        Arthritic conditions

        Injury

        Sports related problems

    Pregnancy

Low back & pelvic pain are common in pregnancy as the body struggles to adapt to the growing uterus. The growing tummy can put a great deal of stress on the low back, increasing the curvature of the low back as the body’s centre of gravity changes.

Hormonal changes also have a strong influence on the joints and soft tissues of the body. Relaxin is one of the main pregnancy hormones which acts to soften joints ready to facilitate the growing baby and birth.

Gentle manipulation and mobilisation techniques are safe to use by a chiropractor during any stage of pregnancy and are complimented by soft tissue massage and/or trigger points to ease muscle tension. Full body pads allow for the pregnant patient to be treated face down without any pressure to the abdomen – a treat for any pregnant lady from my personal experience!

There doesn’t have to be a problem!  Chiropractic treatment in pregnancy not only helps to alleviate problems but can be used to simply facilitate a more comfortable and enjoyable pregnancy as the body is gently helped to adapt and allow for natures most wonderful miracle!

    Newborn and childhood conditions

Chiropractic treatment is both safe and effective for children from any age. Very light finger tip pressures are used alongside massage to gently ease subtle problems in the spine, joints and/or soft tissues. Babies have often slept through the treatments!

Babies can experience pain from joints and muscle tension which can lead to other problems which are expressions of pain such as being unsettled, constant crying or behavioural problems in children. Older children are prone to trips and falls as their bodies struggle to keep up with their enthusiam to simply enjoy life! Postural issues are also becoming more wide spread with the increased use of ipads, laptops and computer games which can lead to prolonged sitting with poor posture, resulting in tight upper back/neck problems and cervicogenic headaches (headaches arising from the neck).

A specific paediatric examination, birth history and medical history will be performed to determine the underlying cause.

,For babies, please bring your own baby blanket for use during treatment as familiar scents will help to settle your little ones during treatment.
